Culture eats strategy for breakfast, right? And yet often in our work teams we are in danger of either forgetting the power of team culture or mindset, or indeed the imperative of connecting it to the delivery of strategy and the elusive sustainable team performance. We will look at eight principles that can guide a team coach to enable a team to create exceptional and sustainable performance and truly adapts and leads its organisation. For each principle there will be examples, tools, ideas and opportunities to consider applying to teams that you coach, lead or are a part of.

Description
What do we embody as coaches? In a world that can feel overwhelming, individualistic and full of conflict, identifying what is important, seeing different perspectives and developing good relationships are important for everyone’s well-being.

This session will explore ways of building your own resilience and well-being, on the basis that this is important for embodying and modelling ways of being for your coaching clients. It will provide the opportunity to engage in dialogue about key questions, while supported to bring present-moment, non-judgemental awareness to speaking and listening. Emma will offer insights from her recent research, during what will be a largely interactive and experiential session.

14:00 - The ‘Why, What and How’ of Team Coaching

Description

With 76% of organisations expecting to increase their use of team coaching (6th Ridler Report), this workshop will challenge and explore the readiness of the coaching profession.

The session will cover:

  • why team coaching leads to long-term sustainable increases in performance
  • what team coaching is and how it differs from one-to-one coaching, team facilitation, team building and team development
  • how team coaches can create transformation through their ‘way of being’, team coaching models, tools, techniques and approaches

The session will also share learnings from a team coaching case study, carried out with a leading UK high-street retailer.


14:00 - Creating Sustainable High-Performance Leadership: The Role of Resilience

Description
Resilience is needed by all, as it helps to deal with adversity. This is especially important in today’s continuously evolving workplace, where one has to overcome challenges influenced by ongoing organisational change, as well as economic and political uncertainty. The healthy functioning of leaders has a major impact on the performance of an organisation. In order to create further insights on how to boost personal and team resilience for peak work performance, Ole Petter Anfinsen, in collaboration with Dr Caroline Rook from Henley Business School, has been conducting an array of research projects with CEOs, business managers and even a team of ocean rowers. In the presentation, the audience will find out how to create the foundations of sustainable high-performance leadership in organisations.


14:00 - The Transformative Power of Feeling Safe: Mindfulness and Psychological Safety in Coaching

Description
There’s a paradox about organisational flourishing in a ‘VUCA’ world; when things are volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous, it’s unlikely that leaders will experience their operating environment as particularly safe. Ironically, research shows that psychological safety is the very thing that enables people to access the higher brain structures that lead to market breakthroughs. This highly experiential session will explore the neurophysiology of safety and how mindfulness practice can deepen psychological safety in coaching.


16:15 - Keynote: A Working Life of Quality: The Role of Coaching in Well-being at Work

Speaker: Professor Bob Garvey
Description
Many people are asking ‘How can I be myself at work?’ If people are not themselves at work, what are they? If they are something else, this can lead to both physical and psychological problems. Well-being is an issue of quality. However, within the coaching world at least, quality may be seen in terms of standards, ethical codes and competency frameworks. What might be the alternative to this approach? This keynote explores Oliver’s (2006) concept of ‘purposive drift’, where, Oliver suggests that coaches should be clear about purpose and open about what might turn up as we go along. In essence, Oliver believes that a ‘sense of well-being’ is a compass point around which people can perform at work. Purposive drift is a relationship between values, competencies and context.

17:30 - Post Conference​ - Research Masterclass

Speakers: Dr Jonathan Passmore & Dr Rebecca Jones
Description
This session is aimed at those interested in sharing their research findings.

Jonathan and Rebecca will discuss their experiences of publishing research outcomes through journals and conference papers. To begin, Rebecca will talk about how students can turn research into journal papers for academic publication, based on her experience of publishing three- and four-star papers . Jonathan will then share his experience of communicating research through practitioner magazines, such as Coaching at Work, and specialist coaching journals, including the International Coaching Psychology Review, as well as tips for submitting research papers to coaching conferences.
