Evidence-Based Decision Making

Evidence-Based Decision Making

With Professor Rob Briner

By popular demand, we are looking hard at how leaders and organisations make decisions.  It’s an often forgotten skill, and one that every leader must master.  Join this event to understand the basics of how we use evidence, and then start to change your thinking.

Effective organisations, and the best leaders, take decision-making seriously.  But are you happy with the way you make decisions?  Does the process work, and do you get the right outcomes?  Decisions improve when you use evidence effectively, and all managers use some evidence to some extent.  But do we use enough good quality evidence from different sources?

While most people agree with the principles of evidence-based management, it is striking how few managers and organizations are able to take advantage of its potential benefits.  Barriers to evidence-based management include cognitive biases, power and politics, the need for speed, and management fads and consultants.  But how can these barriers be overcome?  How can we kill the fads, and remove the distractions?

This practical event will investigate evidence-based practice, and how your personal and organisational decision-making can be improved by re-assessing how you approach one of the fundamentals of leadership and management.
