On 15th June, 32 students and the two Programme Directors for the Henley MSc Entrepreneurship programme will visit Poland for a 4 day study visit in collaboration with the Climate-KIC team of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology- EIT+ (http://eit.europa.eu/).

It is intended that this is the beginning of a long term relationship between EIT+, Henley Centre for Entrepreneurship, Climate-KIC Lower Silesia, to develop the leaders of tomorrow in ethical and sustainable business practices.

The venue will be the historical and beautiful city of Wroclaw in Lower Silesia which is now a major centre for technology based start-up enterprise, which has led to the transformation from a commodity based economy to a knowledge based economy. Wroclaw will be the European Capital of Culture in 2016.

The Climate-KIC education team is behind the successful ‘EIT Journey’ programme Climate-Kic Summer School for MSc and Doctoral students and they will utilise their knowledge, coaching expertise, and entrepreneur network to create a dynamic learning experience for our students.

Henley professer, Andrew Godley, and deputy programme director, Keith Heron, will also lead a ‘Henley’ day of interactive learning for the benefit of the start-up entrepreneurs, where, supported by the student teams and Climate-KIC coaches, they are able to challenge their value propositions, enhance confidence, and get closer to launch.

On the final day, students will participate in a Climathon 24 hour project in the old mining town of Walbrzych Climate-Kic Climathon to generate potential solutions for citizens to more easily engage in climate related innovation.

The cultural exchange experience will be of particular value to the Henley students and  also the Polish start-up entrepreneurs who will be introduced to Henley’s management development techniques which have been in practice since the opening of Henley in 1945, and also from the extensive entrepreneurship research conducted by professor Andrew Godley and his mentor professor Mark Casson.

Henley is a world top 50 MBA provider.

Professor Andrew Godley is Co-Director of the Reading-Zhejiang Sino-British Entrepreneurship Research Centre (with Professor Zhongming Wang of Zhejiang University) and a Visiting Professor at Zhejiang University. His most recent publication is:

Godley, A.   (2013) Entrepreneurial opportunities, implicit contracts and market making for complex consumer goods. Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal. ISSN 1932-4391   doi: 10.1002/sej.1167

Professor Casson (not attending) was one of the first British academics to turn his attention to the entrepreneur and his synthesis of Schumpeter, Hayek, and Knight led to his publication of the internationally recognised book:

Casson, Mark C. (1982) The Entrepreneur: An Economic Theory, Oxford: Martin Robertson, [2nd. ed., Edward Elgar, 2003)

Keith Heron’s experience of business and business start-up, aligned to his Henley MBA thinking, enables him to bridge the gap between academic research and practical application.

He has designed and delivered theory-based practical entrepreneurship programmes for different audiences in the UK, Australia and Croatia.
