Navigating Organisational Politics

Navigating Organisational Politics

With Professor Nick Holley and Darren Briggs

It’s easy to forget some of the fundamental skills that help our careers to flourish.  And, in an increasingly complex corporate world, the need for “political savvy” has never been more evident. Join this event to look again at how to gain buy-in and influence.

It doesn't matter how good we are or how strong our analysis is, if no one will listen then our ideas will never be translated into action. The event will explore how to get people to listen and to buy into what we want to do in the highly charged political environment that exists in every organisation.

We will explore the reality of organisational life; we'll use case studies and a self-diagnostic instrument to explore the balance between political savvy and integrity. We'll look at: how to navigate the movers and shakers; the art of strategic persuasion and what your preferred style is; how to win people over; and how to build deep trust. That is, we’ll be looking at the core of getting things done in the real world. We'll look at what Machiavelli had to say, how he's been misinterpreted, and how relevant it is 500 years later. We'll also explore how Aristotle's art of rhetoric is as relevant today when it comes to persuasion as it was over 2000 years ago.
