‘Sourcing Finance for Business Growth’

Thursday 23 October 2014

Following the success of the SME forum last June and supported by the Thames Valley Berkshire Business Growth Hub the Henley Business School plans to stage a series of events for SMEs on topics they see as important in growing their business.

We are pleased to announce the first event ‘Sourcing Finance for Business Growth’ which is to be held on Thursday 23rd October 2014 at Henley Business School starting at 17.30.

The event addresses probably the most important of issues faced by SMEs that of financing growth.

SME businesses not infrequently find further growth hampered by a lack of finance. They may also be unaware of the full array of finance options available, from private sources including commercial loans and angel/VC investment to government grants and other sources like crowdfunding.

This event brings together a panel of speakers from SMEs who have recently secured finance for business growth. They talk about their experience of securing finance and share insights that will help SMEs who are or are thinking about raising funds to accelerate the growth of their business.

The panellists include Dan Daly, CEO Lein Diagnostic, Peter Hopkinson, Invent Network, and Nick Skaer, Founder, CEO and CSO at Orthox.

The panel will address questions like ‘when should you raise finance?’ ‘what type of finance is best for my business and how do I approach getting it?,’ ‘Am I investment ready and can we become more attractive to investors and increase valuation?’ and ‘How do I manage the funds and investor requirements/expectations”.

The panel will be moderated by Emma Gibson, Partner Shoosmiths and Chair of Access to Finance and Bankers’ Forum.

This event will help answer the questions that you’ve always wanted answered and importantly get you connected and networking with participants and peers.

For additional information, including a full agenda, see our flyer. Updates will be published via our social media channels in the coming weeks.

Future speaker panel events scheduled in the series include ‘Developing a Successful Sales Strategy and Winning at Customer Development’ (Monday 24 November 2014), ‘Securing and Getting the most from a Knowledge Transfer Partnership’ (Monday 16 February 2015) and ‘Successfully Hiring and Developing Staff’ (Wednesday 25 March 2015).

Henley Business School expects that these speaker panels will help make a difference to SMEs in their pursuit of growth and demonstrate that collaboration with the University of Reading can have a transformative effect on SMEs.

The speaker panels will be open to all SMEs who will be able to go on line and register from next month.

The University of Reading is committed to work with the SME community in the Thames Valley Region for mutual benefit.
