The Henley Partnership - 'Leading Change in a Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous World' with Dr Sharon Varney & Christine Lloyd

As event 1 of 4 in the change stream for 2015, this session helps to explain why “change is different now”, and provides different ways to look at change as you grapple with this complex issue. Lots of robust thinking and practical experience.

Our working world is changing. It’s now more volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) than ever before. This new world context demands even more from leaders and managers in terms of leading change, while they themselves are in the midst of change. Yet, management strategies for understanding and leading change just haven’t kept up with these changing times.

So leaders are offered tools for leading change that are rooted in a very different working world. Unsurprisingly, therefore, these tools are often inadequate in helping leaders work with the complex change challenges that they face in their organisations.

Dr Sharon Varney and Christine Lloyd, both experienced change leaders themselves, will offer new insights into change in a VUCA world. In a world where change outcomes can so often be surprising, unexpected and unintended – even in the best-planned projects – leaders need to be able to spot early warning signs of change. This workshop introduces new tools and techniques to help leaders make sense of the ‘vital signs’ of change.
