More Investment = More Poor Leadership?

The leadership development industry has grown exponentially over the past thirty years, with about $14 billion spent annually in the US alone on leadership development (Gurdjian, 2014). Ironically, during this same period, there have been more and more cases of ‘poor leadership’.

Against this background, a team of Leadership faculty at Henley Business School set up a project to explore these issues with organisational practitioners, including alumni, clients from small medium and large-sized corporates, not-for-profit, government & policy makers. This three year project has generated some very interesting insights into the challenges for today’s leaders and identified ‘the holy grail’ of how to effectively develop ‘better’ leaders for today’s complex, global world.

New Approaches

This event provided an overview of the project findings, including practical insights for leaders, managers and leadership development consultants, along with the opportunity to discuss current leadership issues with a faculty panel. It was a highly interactive evening, including a practical experience of one of the new techniques ‘The Leadership Market Place’ now used on the MBA and new MA Leadership.
