Anybody who has lost their bank card will know how essential easy access to money is. For millions of people across the world, access to banking has historically been very restricted and limited to those living in more populous areas or able to prove a regular minimum income.

The eBusiness SIG are delighted to invite alumni to M-PESA: Mobile Money and Microfinance with Susie Lonie, one of the creators of M-PESA and co-winner of “The Economist Innovation Award for Social and Economic Innovation”.

Join us to hear about the revolutionary mobile money system M-PESA and how it has leapfrogged traditional banking infrastructure, introducing mobile money to the millions who had previously been restricted to cash.

In this fascinating talk Susie Lonie will discuss:

  • How M-PESA was developed
  • The practicalities of working in emerging markets
  • The challenges of success including scale, expense, and crowd control
  • Replicating success and managing expectations
  • Changing corporate cultures to cope with innovation

Join us to hear this inspiring story of technology and business innovation and discuss implications for our businesses and society.
