Marketing Special Interest Group Event
In early November, Henley Business School’s Marketing Special Interest Group composed of alumni and current students met at 3M’s Bracknell centre for a special event on ‘Fast Forward to the Future of Marketing’. Highlights included;
- Tour of 3M’s Customer Innovation Centre wherein many fascinating and innovative products were showcased. Including floating concrete, sound-dampening tape and the ubiquitous Post-It note (itself an example of an innovative product serving a predominantly marketing purpose)
- Panel discussion featuring Sean Appleton (MBA 2015), General Manager, Advanced Materials Division, 3M, Leona Shepherd, Business Development Manager, West Europe, 3M and Roger Metcalfe (MBA 2013), Co-Chair, Marketing Special Interest Group and Owner & CEO, Sarium LTD
- Networking drinks reception
We learned much of 3M’s practices, especially regarding their approach to tackling customer requests – leading with innovation, seeing the customer as a co-creator and always looking to deliver a bespoke solution. We also gained insight into international working practices and project management, with Six Sigma techniques being hailed as a key component in unified project work. Innovation and customer engagement were championed by Sean and Leona for successful marketing campaigns, and Roger chaired a sound Q&A afterwards.
