The Centre is delighted to welcome Alessandra Tessari on a joint fellowship between the Centre for Entrepreneurship and the Museum of English Rural Life (MERL). A lecturer in Economic History at the University of Salento, Lecce, Alessandra's research looks at the emergence and development of the poultry industry in Britain and Italy. Alessandra has carried out research on the Italian and US poultry industries and is now turning to the UK to undertake a comparison using MERL's archives.

Alessandra's research 'Accounting for the global chicken: Technological change and transfer in the modern poultry industry in Italy and Britain in the second half of the twentieth century', will look at how consumers' diffidence to the 'technological chicken' was overcome in the English and Italian markets.

It is the first time this area has been studied in Italy from an historical point of view.
