Henley Business School ICAEW Speed Meeting

On 29 October 2014, Henley Business School held its first ‘speed meeting’ career event in collaboration with ICAEW and the Thames Valley Society of Chartered Accountants. This was an exciting opportunity for students to meet and have ‘speed interviews’ with local employers with real training contracts to offer. This event attracted 12 local employers and 37 final-year accounting students.

The evening started off with a talk entitled ‘Career as a Charted Accountant’, delivered by Mark Jeffers from ICAEW, when students had a chance to ask questions and find out more about the ACA qualification. Mark later gave an employability talk to help students enhance their skills in the hunt for their first job and boost their career opportunities.

The highlight of the evening was when students met each of the employers individually and were given a real job interview – a unique experience of attending more than ten interviews in just one evening!

The evening concluded with a reception that allowed students and employers to network and follow up on the earlier interviews.

The event received great feedback from both students and employers:

  • ‘Really useful for undergraduates looking for a job and a chance to meet prospective employers and make connections’
  • ‘Excellent opportunity’
  • ‘Never had this experience before’
  • ‘Well organised’
  • ‘It was good to hear about local offices’

(Final-year accounting students)

  • ‘Very well organised, really enjoyed getting to meet so many passionate grads in such a short space of time’
  • ‘Great students, maybe more time to offer interview feedback’

Many thanks go to all BISA staff and students, the Careers team at Henley Business School, Jacqui Fletcher, the HBS Undergraduate Programme Area Manager, Andrea Dunhill and Katherine Meadows from ICAEW for their help with the event, and special thanks to Dr Jessica Yang, the Undergraduate Programme Area Director (Accounting), and Sara Abdaless for organising this event and making it such a great success.
