Planet Informatics

Our mission is to bridge the gap between students and professionals, develop connections with alumni, and professional development.

Planet Informatics is a student led initiative in association with BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT. It is an attempt to re-invent the connections between Informatics students of Henley Business School, industry and alumni.

Our mission is to bridge the gap between students and professionals, develop connections with alumni, and professional development. Planet Informatics facilitates communication and discussions between geographically separated students and industry professionals. The aim is to explore curious minds by providing interest based materials and webinars. This is a forum where people share their interests and discuss current trends in IT.

Through our website alumni, students from different campuses and industry professionals can discuss current technological and business issues. This will facilitate alumni and BCS members to engage with current students. It’s an opportunity for alumni to mentor students, share their experience and provide career guidance. They can give and attend talks on interesting topics.  They can also identify the right talent for their organisation. After a preparation period that started in October 2013, Planet Informatics was officially established on 5 March 2014 at a launch event attended by the BCS President Roger Marshall and the Dean, Prof. John Board. We also work closely with BCS Berkshire Branch. In September 2014, Henley Business School hosted the BCS Berkshire Branch AGM, ‘An Evening with Master of IT’ at which Planet Informatics was introduced.

With the new cohort of Informatics MSc students having started in October 2014, a new student committee was formed to continue developing this initiative. One of the first tasks of the new committee is to start involving alumni.

The Planet Informatics website (www.planetinformatics.com) is now open for registration. Latest information regarding future events and activities can also be accessed via the website. We still have a long way to go on our journey. So, we call on our alumni to join us and be part of our exciting journey.
