Real Estate & Planning at first RICS Global Summit in Latin America

Dr Claudia Murray, Research Fellow in the School of Real Estate & Planning, was invited to speak at the the first Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Global Summit in Latin America.
The first Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Global Summit in Latin America took place in Sao Paulo this week. The theme of the event was the Future of Real Estate and the Built Environment. Panel discussions included a variety of topics including infrastructure, investment and housing. Dr Claudia Murray from REP was invited to take part in the housing panel. Claudia briefly reviewed policies of the past ten years in five different countries in Latin America highlighting the need to improve quality, connectivity and social mix in current social housing schemes. Other members of the panel included the current president of RICS, Mr Michael Newey, who presented the idea of renting as an alternative for social housing in Brazil. Another panel reviewed research and real estate education in Latin America, in that session the current president of LARES, Prof. Claudio Alencar, highlighted the fact that more real estate courses and research is needed in Brazil but praised the research that the University of Reading and the University of Sao Paulo are jointly developing.
