David Grundy, Co-Founder & CEO Invenias engages the audience

David Grundy, Co-Founder & CEO Invenias engages the audience of SMEs and entrepreneurship students with a stimulating talk at Henley Business School.

Supported and sponsored by the Thames Valley Berkshire Business Growth Hub and Santander, the Henley Centre for Entrepreneurship hosted the third in the 'Talks on Enterprise Development' series at the Henley Business School on Monday 23 November 2015.

The 'Talks on Enterprise Development' series puts the spotlight on leadership and engaging SMEs, and showcases successful SME leaders who share their personal stories of developing high growth businesses, the challenges they faced and how they dealt with them, achievements, lessons learnt and their thoughts about the future.

David, who pointed out that he had worked for corporate enterprises before becoming an entrepreneur spurred the audience with his talk 'A British based tech company - From launch to first base'. Invenias today is a rapidly growing business which has expanded internationally with offices worldwide. David remarked that international expansion had been a highlight of the growth of Invenias and surprisingly 'relatively straightforward'. A point of pride for David was the high customer loyalty which Invenias has built (reflected by the high NPS score of 45).

David spoke honestly and candidly about the lessons learnt, saying 'Bootstrapping although honourable is not fit for purpose in a fast growing market', 'We were in it to win, not just run' and 'getting backed by the right people...having an institutional investor changed everything'. David further emphasised that you can't do it with people who are not on board 'Get on the bus or on your bike' was the message. Product Innovation and creating value with something that is better and different is at the core of what David sees as the success of Invenias. All of which explains the 75% growth in revenues that David and the team at Invenias has achieved year on year over the last 5 years.

This is what members of the audience had to say about David's talk:

Nigel Penn-Simpkins, MD at Article 10 "Invaluable insights for SMEs".

David Davies, MD at Sandler Thames Valley "A cracking insight and very valuable.. David was authentic, open, honest, humble, a great story, well told".

John Estdale, Chief Architect at IT Architecture Specialists Ltd "A very honest and open picture of a very successful company".

David Kirk, Sales Director at Passel "A very well focused and insightful talk".

Henley Business School was privileged to have had David speak on campus and wishes to extend an enormous thank you to David for his talk.
