Dr Dimitrios Spyridonidis, Academic in Leadership, Organisations and Behaviour attended the HMRC's Leaders in Tax Group bi-annual Conference on the 4th June 2015 as a Keynote Speaker.

HMRC's Leaders in Tax initiative is a network of approximately 180 enthusiastic tax professionals from all areas of the department.  Members look to share their tax knowledge and expertise throughout HMRC.  Masterclasses are held for members every six months to learn about and discuss the future direction of HMRC and how members can bring in and positively influence this change.

The Summer 2015 Masterclass covered topics such as, digital development in Business Tax, Cyber Crime and Taxation and How To Run A Local Learning Event.

Dr Dimitrios Spyridondis, spoke about Leadership, and the importance of the first follower, he broke down a potentially complex message, allowing attendees to consider all elements and assimilate a message that at first may have come across as contradictory.

Through a somewhat controversial message, delivered in a style radically different from that employed by internal presents, Dr Spyridondis created a buzz and discussion around what leadership actually is. All attendees were part of this, regardless of whether they agreed with him or not. For us, generating thought and discussion on what it means to lead achieved the ultimate goal of the day.
