Jan Ward CBE, Founder & CEO Corrotherm International delivers a passionate and motivating talk
30 September 2015
Supported and sponsored by the Thames Valley Berkshire Business Growth Hub and Santander, the Henley Centre for Entrepreneurship hosted the second in the 'Talks on Enterprise Development' series at the Henley Business School on Wednesday 30th September.
The 'Talks on Enterprise Development' series puts the spotlight on leadership and engaging SMEs, and showcases successful SME leaders who share their personal stories of developing high growth businesses, the challenges they faced and how they dealt with them, achievements, lessons learnt and their thoughts about the future.
Jan's talk 'Everyday's a Schools day... Building a Successful Business from Scratch' was nothing short of 'truly motivational' experience. Jan spoke passionately about her business life from the beginning when she started out in her bedroom some 23 years ago, to the present day and a company that is truly international with offices in 10 countries. Jan said she puts her success down to three things... people, money & brand. Jan is adamant that hiring 'high calibre people' and motivating them to deliver their best through encouragement, involvement and reward is the key to success. Speaking about money, Jan pointed to her success being down to managing cash and a 'good relationship with your bank manager'. Branding is 'not to be confused with marketing' said Jan. The former is all about 'your identity and what you stand for. Company integrity and care for customers which starts with 'the drive to understand your customer' is paramount.
This is what members of the audience had to say about Jan's talk:
Nigel Penn-Simkins, MD of Article 10 said 'A wonderful speaker! Jan was willing to share all aspects of her journey, from the beginning to the successful position of the business today... truly inspiring'.
Conrad Shields, Director of Willow Innovation Ltd said 'Excellent speaker, great lessons learnt and another top notch evening from HBS'.
Steve Brown, Client Services Director of Abacus Marketing said 'Excellent.. your experience is inspiring.. thank you Jan!'.
A PhD student at Henley who attended said 'I learnt so much and I wish I could get to hear Jan again'.
The positive feedback builds on the positive feedback received following the first talk by David Griffiths, CEO Fiscal Technologies.
Henley Business School was privileged to have had Jan speak on campus and wishes to extend an enormous thanks you to Jan for her talk.
The talk was filmed and a link will soon be posted here on the Henley Centre for Entrepreneurship website for viewing.
