Real Estate & Planning's Professor of Real Estate Finance & Investment, Simon Stevenson, won the "Best Refereed Paper" award at the recent conference of the Pacific-Rim Real Estate Society. The conference was held last month in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The paper, “Low-Frequency Volatility of Property Securities in Relation to Macroeconomic Risk” decomposes the risk of public real estate companies into high (short-run) and low (long-run) frequency. The analysis reveals that the long-run volatility of real estate securities has a strong and positive association with a variety of macro-economic risk factors, including interest rates, inflation, GDP and the currency markets. This ongoing strand of research is being conducted together with Dr. Chyi Lin Lee of the University of Western Sydney and Dr. Ming-Long Lee of the National Dong Hwa University in Taiwan”.
