Business professionals and Alibaba Director celebrate graduation success
Today marks a significant milestone for a cohort of business professionals who graduate from our Greenlands campus. Honorary graduate Savio Kwan, Non-Executive Director of Alibaba HK Entrepreneurs Fund Board, and programme members from a range of postgraduate and research courses marked their achievements in a ceremony held at our historic Thames-side home.
Students will continue on their professional and personal journeys equipped with specialist knowledge and expertise gained from their Masters in Business Administration (MBA), Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), Masters of Philosophy (MPhil), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Masters and postgraduate diplomas/certificates, from the world-class Business School.
As part of the University of Reading, we have a long history of empowering individuals to become great professionals and outstanding leaders and bringing business to life. As well as celebrating the success of graduating students, Sir David Bell, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Reading, presented Savio Kwan, Non-Executive Director of Alibaba HK Entrepreneurs Fund Board, with an Honorary Doctor of Business Administration Degree (DBA).
With 30 years of global management experience, Savio is an inspiring role model to business professionals and a prime example of an outstanding business expert and leader. His career history spans across Chinese and international companies and roles including President and Chief Operating Officer and Chief People Officer of Alibaba Group, Managing Director of Chinese operations at BTR Plc and senior management at General Electric Medical Systems. Alongside these roles, Mr Kwan also co-founded A & K Consulting and is a Visiting Executive Professor at Henley.
Professor John Board, Dean, comments:
“Congratulations go to all our programme members who graduated today, they have worked exceedingly hard during their time at the Business School and we look forward to seeing them as part of our alumni community. It was also a pleasure for us to award Savio with his honorary degree; he has been a friend of Henley for many years and is an excellent role model. Alongside his distinguished career, he is known for his passion for success, generosity in sharing knowledge with others and a great advocate of education and fostering relationships between the East and the West. We are incredibly fortunate to have Savio as a Visiting Executive Professor and now as an honorary alumnus.”
On being awarded the Honorary Doctor of Business Administration degree, Savio Kwan, adds:
“It is a great honour and will give me even more opportunities to try and share my experience with Henley and the University. I hope to be able to contribute more in the future.”
After the ceremonies, programme members celebrated and reflected on their individual experiences with their families, academics and support staff at a reception event. Graduates now join a global community of over 73,000 students in 150 countries and will use their newly acquired skills and knowledge to excel in their careers and lead future generations of aspiring professionals to make their own mark in the business world.
