Nurturing the next generation of technology talent

This week marks the announcement of our new Information Communications Technology (ICT) Master’s and Huawei Certification programme pathway, run in partnership with ICT education provider, TECH Education Group. The collaboration builds on existing connections between us and the two other institutions and combines industry knowledge and teaching expertise to nurture the next generation of ICT talent.
We are the first European providers to offer MSc study with expert-level Huawei certification and announced the new programme at a ceremony hosted by Head of Business Informatics, Systems and Accounting, Professor Keiichi Nakata, and CEO of TECH, Kangping Lin. Attendees included the Chinese Embassy’s Minister Counsellor of the Education Section, Yongli Wang, Cllr Sarah Hacker from Reading Borough Council and representatives from all three partner institutions.
From next year, students on our MSc Information Management and MSc Business Technology Consulting courses will complete additional modules to achieve Huawei-branded and industry-recognised certification, which will provide them with a highly desired skillset to succeed in the industry, including: cloud computing; data and storage networks; computer networks and communication; internet security; and wireless local area network.
Professor Keiichi Nakata, comments:
“In this digital age in which topics such as big data, data security and digital innovation are highly relevant, there is an increasing need for talent with a firm understanding of both business and technology in developing innovative and creative solutions. This new partnership with tech education group is ideally timed to enhance our existing collaboration with huawei to supply industry-ready talent for businesses around the world, as well as providing a boost to professionals as they enter the job market.”

Alongside the core and optional modules required to complete their Master’s Degree, students will study for the Huawei Certified Network Associate (HCNA), Network Professional (HCNP) and Internet Expert (HCIE) certifications. The pathway will take one year to complete and the first intake will begin in September 2018, with prospective students able to apply from later this year until August 2018.

MSc Information Management
This Master’s programme consists of three pathways.
The Digital Innovation pathway will equip you with the knowledge, skills and tools to lead, manage, develop, and implement innovation digital business solutions. Our students learn to develop a strategic approach and apply appropriate theories and models to create new business value, by exploring how digital technology innovations and leadership can be harnessed to strategically organise and lead people and technology in a digital environment.
The Systems Analysis and Design pathway gives students an understanding of how technological information systems work, enabling them to deliver IT-based solutions, such as enterprise systems to business and organisations. You’ll learn how to manage data to deliver actionable business insight using creative, sophisticated techniques to solve complex business issues. Students will learn how systems ‘think’ and be able to apply their understanding to systems analysis and design methodology to enable them to plan, manage and design and implement information management projects.
The Big Data in Business pathway will provide you with the knowledge and skills to understand and direct the strategic use of the vast amounts of information being generated by businesses today. Our students learn to develop a strategic approach to managing Big Data in business, through the analysis of business problems as well as understanding different approaches to business intelligence. Through this, they are able to create usable business intelligence to create competitive advantage for their organisation.
MSc Business Technology Consulting
This Master’s programme provides theoretical knowledge and practical methodologies and techniques via case studies and tutorials that enable students to specify and design technology solutions for business managers and organisations.
You will learn about informatics, business systems, processes and architecture necessary to understand the digital business environment. Students develop analysis, problem solving, teamwork and leadership skills necessary for creating effective business solutions. Students also learn the consulting principles and behaviours necessary for consulting.
Business Problem Solving Experience - one week residential course at our beautiful Greenlands campus in Henley-on-Thames enables students to experience our world-class executive training environment with other business executives and consultants.
A 10-12 week consulting project enables students to apply their knowledge to real-life cases in a structured and systematic manner, with many projects involving work with and for consulting organisations.
2.1 degree, or equivalent, from an internationally recognised university; not necessarily in a related discipline, plus experience in industry where possible.
A good first or second class UK honours degree, or overseas equivalent, will usually be required. Applicants with relevant experience or professional qualifications will also be considered. Experience in industry is desirable.
Prior knowledge or experience of your chosen subject area is not required. We welcome applications from recent university graduates from a wide range of disciplines.
Applicants to Henley Business School, whose first language is not English, will be required an IELTS score of 6.5 with no single element below 5.5. However, for students who cannot meet the IELTS requirement, an equivalent acceptable qualification (Pre-sessional English Language courses) can be offered by the University.
