Dr Richard Nunes involved in major new project which aims to reduce waste

Dr Richard Nunes from Real Estate & Planning is involved in a major new ESRC funded project. The project aims to investigate where waste is generated as it travels around the cycle between food, energy and water – the so-called “nexus” or relationship between these three elements.

The project will do this by setting up Urban Living Labs (ULL) in 4 cities worldwide: in Bristol in the UK, Rotterdam in the Netherlands, The Western Cape, South Africa and Campinas in Brazil. A ULL enables experiments across subject areas to develop, install, model and monitor technologies, and recommend policies which can turn the waste into something useful, essentially closing food, water and energy loops in cities.
