Active Stewardship – Keynote at 12th HSBC SRI Conference
Chris Biehl was invited to speak as keynote speaker at this year’s HSBC SRI Conference in Frankfurt. The conference provides a platform for companies and investors to engage in meetings and at the same time learn about new topics in academic research. The topic of the keynote was ‘Do we need active stewardship?’. At the core of the discussion was the role of ‘human capital’ in the sustainability accounting and investment process. Where does the data that we use to invest come from? What processes are necessary for the data to transform from raw data included in a sustainability report or survey to a data point provided by a data provider? How does subjectivity and human capital affect these processes? The keynote provided answer to these questions based on current research undertaken by Chris and in the wider field. During the keynote a lively discussion unfolded, highlighting the interest in and timeliness of the research area.
