This Masters degree enables you to experience the specific requirements of creating original work. This innovative postgraduate course will develop your practical and theoretical skills.

Additionally, you will develop a critical understanding of entrepreneurship and management for the fast-evolving creative industries. Whether you wish to set up a business, consider a career change, or advance into a managerial role, this is the course for you.

Compulsory modules Credits

This module introduces students to the scholarly literature on entrepreneurship and its recent advances. It shows how theoretical developments have practical applications and so assists students to appraise the increasingly entrepreneurial role of managers in modern business.

The module provides intensive experiential learning in an international context. This is an opportunity for students group visits a particular country and particular business communities to explore business development issues and the methods the community has found for addressing these issues, as well as to assist these communities with possible business solutions. The module assists to create a network of active young specialists who think globally and act locally to make business action happen. The country partners institutions play a key role in setting up the itinerary and hosting the visit. Students will work in multinational teams for 10 continuous working days to develop international capabilities and build their global network.

What am I going to do when my course ends, and how am I going to achieve it? This module has been designed to help Accounting, Informatics and Business Management students answer those two questions, and empower them to take the actions required. It’s a suite of sessions that pays close attention to the general pathways Business Management, Accounting and Informatics students tend to take, and their aspirations as expressed during pre-sessional career activities & induction surveys. Students will choose this the mix of custom-made sessions that best suit their stage in life and supplement them with the open careers programmes offered at the University, the online content on the Henley Careers Blackboard site and 1-2-1 careers consultations.

To strengthen students’ ability to make best use of the learning opportunities during the MSc degree course. To provide students with an understanding of what is required to perform well in essays, dissertations, report writing and examinations at Henley Business School. To provide students with an awareness of the appropriate use of methodology, theory, data, literature reviews and original research in a Masters dissertation/project.

This module introduces students to the characteristics and skills that underpin Entrepreneurial leadership.

Using scholarly literature and case studies this module discusses how this form of leadership is applied in difference contexts, from family businesses to corporates and start up-firms.

The module has a strong practical application and uses real life case studies.

20 [10 ECTS credits]

This module will enable you to develop your entrepreneurial capacity and your understanding of the start-up process through an immersive, team-based learning experience, culminating in a consultancy to help entrepreneurial small businesses and start-ups.

This module aims to critically examine the nature, role and importance of different traditional and non-traditional sources of finance for entrepreneurial ventures and assess their costs and benefits for an entrepreneurial firm at different stages of growth.

Students will develop their own new business idea in real time, experiencing the realities of entrepreneurship and business start-up as they progress through the module. They will study the underpinning theory, while also gaining entrepreneurial skills, knowledge and understanding. This will enable them to be effective in both developing their venture and reflecting on their personal and business performance.

This module aims to introduce students to digital marketing and the increasingly important role of technology in both marketing practice and society. By the end of the module students should be able to apply a range of skills to implement digital marketing approaches and understand the key strategic drivers behind the growth of the digital economy.

This module introduces students to a range of entrepreneurial management concepts applied to the specific context of creative industries. It provides an overview of key economics shaping creative industries, as well as the entrepreneurial process from idea creation through to the start-up phase. Using a range of case studies, the module discusses managerial challenges that arise from the tension of balancing limited resources, creative ambition and strongly talent-driven business models.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) represent a large share of our economies and a leading force in economic development. This module focuses on such enterprises and explores the distinctive features of management in the SME environment. An important component of this module is the preparation of a Business Plan.

The module explores the issues related to the law and regulation of the ‘borderless’ internet. These include allocation of jurisdiction; e-privacy and data protection; liability of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for online crimes and infringements; regulation of domain names; legal issues of cloud computing, software licensing and ‘open source’ distribution; freedom of speech on the internet and intellectual property issues of the information society.

As digital technology moves from being disruptive to becoming pervasive, the breadth and depth of digital change transforms entire systems of production, management, and governance.

This poses a dual challenge to leaders who need to understand how digital technologies continuously reshape their competitive environment and devise strategies to keep their organisation ahead; but also to continuously rethink organisational processes and their own role within them:

  • What is the role of leadership in an emerging work environment where advances in automation and machine-learning mean that core functions such as organising information flows, delegating and prioritising work and even high-level decision-making can now be assumed by systems?
  • How does the ubiquity of connected data affect organisational power structures, leadership legitimacy, ethics and governance?
  • How can leaders build a company culture that embraces continuous individual and organisational development?

Drawing on leading-edge case studies, theory and industry guest speakers, this module critically explores the role and opportunities for leadership in the context of the emerging Digital Organisation paradigm.

How you will learn

Henley has a strong reputation for the practical application of business ideas and concepts. We are underpinned by academic excellence and the strength of our research. We offer high-quality technical skills training as well as a deep understanding of the importance of personal development for leaders. This is a thread that is woven through all of our Masters programmes.

Our Masters programmes feature a mix of core and optional modules, tailoring your degree towards your needs and career ambitions. You will complete up to 10 taught modules during your programme, totalling 180 credits. One module usually equates to 20 credits or 10 hours of work per week. Your week will include lectures, tutorials, workshops and personal study, with each accounting for 25% of your time on average. This provides you with the opportunity to discuss and explore the material in depth with your lecturers and fellow students.

You will be introduced to the latest thinking and research findings then have the opportunity to challenge those that have created it. You will also explore real-world issues, tackle current business challenges, and interact with guest lectures and speakers from industry. This gives you the opportunity to test, extend and refine your knowledge and skills with confidence.

How we assess you

You will learn and be assessed through a wide variety of teaching methods depending on your chosen postgraduate course. These include online materials, guest lectures, group assignments, case studies, field visits, dealing room simulations, presentations, applied projects, consultancy work and examinations.

On average examinations of core modules form between 15 - 50% of the assessed work. The remaining comes from coursework, including a written dissertation or project depending on your chosen programme.

While Masters students are self-motivated and determined individuals, study at this level can present additional pressures which we take seriously. Lecturers are available to discuss module content and you can meet with your academic tutor. Support staff are available to help with anything that may arise during your time at Henley.
