This session will bring you the latest thinking and ideas around the vital commercial topic of sustainability and what it means for your business.
Over recent years, sustainability has grown in importance. Governments are waking up to the challenge of climate change and customers are starting to include sustainability criteria in their purchase decisions. The investment community is embracing ESG, not only in response to investor demand, but also to reduce risk. Sustainability has shifted from being a component of CSR to having a direct impact on strategic decisions. Understanding what this means for business is vital to long-term commercial success. Sustainability can no longer be ignored, and those businesses that do will be left behind.
At the end of the event you will have:
- understand the importance of sustainability
- start to appreciate how sustainability will shape business strategy
- get a view of how the business landscape is likely to evolve as sustainability moves up the political agenda

Dr Peter McManners
Dr Peter McManners is a strategy and sustainability consultant with wide experience at board level. He leads the Sustainability and Scenario Analysis elective modules at the MBA level, and supervises research in the area of Strategy and Sustainability at the Henley Business School
Peter graduated in Engineering Science from Durham University and later took an MSc in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at Edinburgh University. His first career was in the British Army, where his last post was as a Lt Col and Head of Operations Division for the UK Defence Geographic and Imagery Agency. After completing the Henley MBA, he had roles as Chief Operating Officer focused on incubating high technology companies and Chief Executive in the not-for-profit sector.
Peter was recruited as an associate member of faculty in 2004. He relocated to Finland from 2004 until 2008 where he taught strategy throughout Scandinavia and northern Europe.
