Description
In this session, we’ll work from the assumption that we are all steeped in ways of thinking – often invisible to us – which shape us, our actions and ways of being, as well as our attitudes and beliefs.
We begin with an exploration of different narratives that shape us – for example, social, familial, organisational, cultural. We will then explore how our attitudes towards difference and others have also been shaped by the narratives and ways of thinking in which we have been immersed. Together, we will think about how we can work to go beyond what we have learned, so that we can be better advocates for diversity and equality in our work.
In this highly interactive session, rather than providing ‘answers’, we will work together as a community of learners and reflect within the group.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this session, you will:
- have a better understanding of your own history and its impact on your leadership style
- have an increased awareness of the narratives that shape prejudice and discrimination
- know how to identify new practices to counter those narratives – in yourself and others
- be able to pinpoint resources for further learning and development
