Date 26 June 2020
Time 13:30-14:45 (Timezone: Europe/London)

Small businesses, including those run by women and young entrepreneurs, are being hit hardest by the economic fall-out of the pandemic. Unprecedented lockdown measures enacted to contain the spread of the coronavirus have resulted in supply chain disruptions and a massive drop in demand in most sectors. To continue playing their crucial role in creating decent jobs and improving livelihoods, small businesses depend more than ever on an enabling business environment, including support for access to finance, information, and markets.

With that aim in mind, 27 June was declared by the UN General Assembly as the Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME) Day to raise public awareness of their contribution to sustainable development and global economy. It is a day to celebrate and honor the successes of MSMEs around the world, as well as recognise the ways in which these enterprises employ, care for and support people across the world all year round.

Professor Liu's talk is titled 'Humane Entrepreneurship and the Youth'. It will begin at 2:30pm GMT on 27 June and will be presided over by session chair Jeff Alves, the Managing Editor of the Journal of the International Council for Small Business (JICSB). The other speakers include Ki-Chan Kim (former president at the International Council for Small Businesses and Professor at the Catholic University of Korea), Norris Krueger (expert entrepreneurship developer and senior subject matter expert for Entrepreneurial Ecosystems and Learning at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and the European Union), Rosangela Feola (Technology Transfer Manager and Research Fellow of Lisa Lab at the University of Salerno), Susana Puerto (Senior Youth Employment Specialist at the International Labour Organisation) and Ahmed Shalaby (President and CEO of Tatweer Mismr).
