Description
This webinar explores the challenges leaders face in a world characterised by extraordinary levels of unpredictability and proposes responses that leaders can make to address them effectively and sustainably. We will use the concept of a BANI (Brittle, Anxious, Non-linear, Incomprehensible) world – coined by American futurist Jamais Cascio as an alternative to the Cold War concept of a VUCA world – to outline the critical challenges leaders face today.
We use the Primary Colours Model of Leadership (Pendleton, Furnham & Cowell, 2021) to show how traditional approaches to leadership can exacerbate these challenges and we will explore the different responses leaders can make to address them, drawing on lessons learnt by leaders of UK Government Major Projects.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the session, you will:
- understand the concept of a BANI world and the Primary Colours Model of Leadership
- understand the critical differences between relatively stable, predictable environments and highly unpredictable ones
- appreciate the demands leaders face in highly unpredictable environments and the inadequacy of traditional methods to address them
- be able to select the leadership responses that are appropriate to dealing with unpredictability
