Goodbye 2019 and Hello to 2020
2019 is a fruitful year for Huawei ICT Academy at University of Reading (HICTA). Thanks to the great support from all of our course participants and eco-system partners, we have achieved great success in the past year of 2019. At this moment, we want to thank you for all the support and we are committed to bringing more advanced ICT knowledge to cultivate innovative ICT talents.
From June 2018 to October 2019, Huawei ICT Academy delivered 24 HCIA training courses to 134 university students. 95% of the students passed the HCIA certified exams at their first attempt and obtain HCIA certifications authorised by Huawei. We firstly introduced HCIA-AI course to university students in August 2019 and became one of the first qualified institutions to deliver such course.
As the long-term strategic partner of Huawei (UK), HICTA signed a deeper level memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a strategic cooperation with Huawei (UK) on the 11th November 2019.
Both parties agreed to jointly develop ICT related courses with the aim to enrich university students’ ICT knowledge as well as develop their business management skills, which are important for their ongoing career path. This movement implies the social responsibility fulfilment of Huawei as a leading company in cultivating innovation talent for industry.
10 senior managers from each party attended the MoU ceremony and send their best wishes to this strategic collaboration. The delegation includes guests from Huawei (UK) Non-Executive Director Sir Andrew Cahn, Chief Executive Officer Mr. Jerry Wang, Chief Operating Officer Mr. Don Kelly and representatives from Henley Business School, Dean Professor John Board, Vice Dean Yinshan Tang, Head of BISA Professor Keiichi Nakata, Head of Executive Education Mr. Steven Ludlow, HICTA Director Professor Kecheng Liu, and other key figures.
At the same time, Huawei ICT Academy at University of Reading (HICTA) was also engaged as the main strategic partner in assisting Huawei (UK) holding the 2018-2019 Huawei ICT competition as well as the 2018-2019 WorldSkills competition. Led by Professor Kecheng Liu, our HICTA director, and Ms. Jin Jin, our HICTA executive director, HICTA team represented Western Europe and won the 3rd prize of the Cloud track in 2019 Huawei ICT competition global finals.
Beyond this, we have collaborated with Huawei (UK) and successfully launched the short-term placement programme in August 2018. Since then, we have recommended more than 35 students from University of Reading to work at different posts at Huawei (UK) headquarter in Reading. In reference to the concept of “promoting talent eco-system”, HICTA is committed to bringing more value in cultivating innovative talents in the future.
From June 2018 to December 2019, HICTA held 19 open sessions and assisted Huawei (UK) in organising 5G salon, Huawei ICT competition road shows and other major related events. With the continuous development and penetration of 5G technologies, HICTA at University of Reading has been authorised with the qualification to deliver HCIA 5G courses since October 2019.
In addition to this, we have constantly invited well-known industrial experts to further explain the challenges and opportunities encountered throughout the ICT talent cultivation process. These experts include Huawei (UK) business and development VP Dr. Wenbin Yao, HCIE expert Professor Xiuying Sun, Huawei ICT Academy manager (Western Europe) Ms. Pallavi Malhotr and many more.
Since HICTA has achieved great success in collaborating with enterprises, it is important to incorporate student resources to increase HICTA’ brand awareness. Thus, HICTA firstly introduced student ambassador programme in February 2019 and since then successfully employed more than 25 student ambassadors to work at 3 functionalities, involving sales, social media marketing and event planning.
In order to thank all our supporters in the past 2019, we held the first HICTA rewarding ceremony in August 2019 at Whiteknight campus. On the day, Director for HICTA Professor Kecheng Liu, Vice Dean of Henley Business School Professor Yinshan Tang, Executive Director for HICTA Ms. Jin Jin, attended the ceremony and offered their best wishes to all our course participants for a bright future.
Enterprise Management Training
Apart from certified training courses, HICTA also deliver pre-sale trainings and advanced management courses to our business partners. These courses include digital leadership, corporate and ICT structure, digital transformation and technological consultancy.
As the bridge to link academia and industry, we have been constantly delivering the most advanced knowledge to industrial experts in the past year of 2019. For instance, we collaborated with Hainan government and introduced the “Seminar on Ecological Civilisation and Sustainability Development” (SPECS) in July 2019, with the aim to explore the efficient practices in resolving encountered problems throughout ecological civilisation development. Besides, we launched “Technology Innovation Training Programme” under the partnership with Fujian science association in December 2019 and presented the latest intelligent manufacturing knowledge to the delegation.
Beyond ICT expertise cultivation, we also contribute to developing students’ leadership and relaunched “Global Youth Leadership Camp” with collaboration with Chong Qing University in August 2018.
Since it was established in 2015, HICTA has been continuously committed to bridging academia and industry. We not only introduced the most advanced technologies to university students but also cultivate innovative and competitive talents for industries.
The year 2019 witnessed a lot of great moments of HICTA and such result is highly related to the support of our customers. In the coming 2020, HICTA at University of Reading will continue brining more latest knowledge to students under the concept of “complementing ICT talent ecosystem” and engage as an irreplaceable bridge between academia and industry, fully incorporating all types of resources to promote ICT talent cultivation.
