Yipeng Liu ICSB Talk mtime20200622191229

The webinar, organised by the International Council for Small Business (ICSB) and moderated by ICSB Executive Director Dr Ayman El Tarabishy, went into depth exploring how Chinese businesses and entrepreneurs have adapted to COVID-19. Firstly Professor Liu addressed management and business implications of COVID-19 from an Asian perspective, before going onto look at the impact of COVID-19 and the challenges faced by the Chinese manufacturing industry compared to the Chinese service industry. He then shared from a micro-level perspective how Chinese entrepreneurs have responded to the crisis and revealed the strategies adopted by Chinese entrepreneurs to grow and even thrive by finding opportunities through the use of new digital technologies in the dynamic digital economy in China. Professor Liu ended his talk by offering illustrative examples of SMEs and entrepreneurs in China that have had successfully created business innovations and innovative organisational forms during and after the COVID-19.

The webinar was received extremely positively by the audience. Following Professor Liu's talk, Dr El Tarabishy commented, "This is simply impressive and beyond expectations. It is exactly what we wanted, to get an understanding of exactly what is going on with SMEs in China."

Reflecting on his talk, Professor Liu said, "As an influential organisation focusing on small business and entrepreneurship globally, the ICSB webinar 'Chinese SMEs and Entrepreneurship after COVID-19' showcases CMGB's global influence and expertise. I believe it is critical and of significant importance for scholars, business community and policymakers to collaborate to help and support SMEs and entrepreneurs in the time of global turbulence, uncertainty and crisis. Forging together we will achieve win-win situations for all stakeholders."
