Nick is a Chartered Surveyor who has combined professional and academic work through most of his career.

He started his professional career in a west-country market practice and joined the UK national firm Bruton Knowles in 1989 where he was Chairman from 2005 to 2014. Having spent much of that time in institutional estate management latterly he concentrated on strategic consultancy, particularly for public sector clients.

He now spends most of his time teaching at Henley Business School and the RAU although he remains a consultant to Stags. He has been a Visiting Fellow at the University of Plymouth and a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Exeter. His research interests include land tenure and structural change in the rural sector and he has undertaken a variety for of research commissions for DEFRA and the devolved administrations.

Nick is a member and past Chairman of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers Valuation, Taxation and Compensation Committee, past delegate to The European Group of Valuers’ Associations and National President of the CAAV in 2016/17.
