Latin American and Caribbean Rural & Urban Studies Group

The latest UN-Habitat statistics show that the region will have 90% of its population living in cities by 2050. Amongst multiple issues, this migration has caused uncontrolled sprawl, growth of informal settlements, and lack of investment in public transport has increased the use of private cars with catastrophic health consequences due to air pollution.

Our research group explores the problems caused by the migration. Focusing on action-research and capacity building, we work with local governments and communities with an aim to improve health and quality of life, combat poverty and inequality and boost community’s resilience to face climate change.
