Travel by air

Reading is well connected to Heathrow and Gatwick Airport.

How to get to Reading from London Heathrow A direct bus service runs between Heathrow airport and Reading station. Buses run every 30 minutes, during the day, and take about 40 minutes. For more information, please visit the RailAir website. RailAir buses are the most cost-effective way to get to Reading from Heathrow. Alternatively, there are Heathrow Express buses running to London Paddington, in Central London. Travel by train from Paddington to Reading takes about 30 min. It is not recommended to take a cab from Heathrow to Reading as it is likely to be costly.

How to get to Reading from Gatwick A direct train service runs between Gatwick airport and Reading station. Trains run once an hour, during the day. and take about 75 minutes. For more information please visit the National Rail website.

Travel by train

London Paddington is only 30 min by train. Reading train station is a mainline train station and is easily accessible from most other places in the UK. There are direct rail links from many major cities, including Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff, Bristol, and Exeter.

Travelling from London If you are travelling from or via London, the quickest route to take is from London Paddington station. Trains from London Paddington to Reading run approximately every 15-20 minutes throughout the day and the average journey time is around 30 minutes. Find out more at the National Rail website.

How to get to the University by bus from Reading town

The 21 and 21a buses run from Reading train station in the town centre, bus stop, next to the RailAir bus stop, to our Whiteknights campus at regular intervals, 24 hours a day. Please note, Bus number 9 stops at the Shinfield Road, by the entrance to the University, but it does not stop on Campus.

Buses run every 10-15 minutes. Journey time is 15 minutes. Tickets cost £2.00 (day £4.00). Bus drivers do not give change so exact money is needed. Travel by car

The Whiteknights Campus of Reading University is approximately 1.5-mile from the M4. Please enter the University via the Shinfield Road entrance, drive ahead and then take the first turning on the left. Continue towards car park number 2 (see the map of Whiteknights Campus). The Sat Nav is RG6 6UR.
