Academic dress
Academic Dress
Graduation is a formal occasion, so you should wear smart clothing beneath your gown; no jeans or trainers please. It is useful to wear something such as a shirt or blouse with buttons which will make it easier to attach the hood to your clothing. If a shirt is worn then this should also be accompanied by a tie. Smart but comfortable shoes are also important.
Appropriate military dress or the national dress of your own country is also allowed to be worn underneath your gown.
Please leave handbags, mobile phones, etc. with your guests. You will not be able to carry them with you into your ceremony.
Please be aware that we reserve the right to prevent you from joining your procession and graduating on the day if you are not dressed appropriately and/or in the correct academic dress. You would, in that case, graduate in absence.
The University's Regulations for Academic and Official Costume can be viewed here.
Hire or Purchase Robes
Robes can be hired (or bought) from Ede & Ravenscroft on their website at www.edeandravenscroft.com/academic as soon as graduation registration launches. Please place your order no later than Wednesday 28 August 2024 to guarantee your advanced hire being available. Please remember to bring your order confirmation with you on the day.
Collection of Robes
Robes will be ready for collection at the Greenlands site on the day of your ceremony from the GTS Conference Room (number 13 on the Graduation Map).
Assistance will be given with robing. Hats should be worn throughout the ceremony and for photographs.
Return of Robes
Please return your robes to the John Dunning Library in the main house as soon as possible after your ceremony (number 7 on the Graduation Map).
