Abstract
We are entering a transformative era for robotics, driven by breakthroughs in artificial intelligence. This synergy unlocks new frontiers, potentially enabling robots to perceive, reason, and act autonomously in complex, real-world environments. In this talk, I’ll guide you through cutting-edge approaches to building digital representations of the world, exploring how AI shapes these models, why they remain a formidable challenge, and how both robots and decision-makers can harness their potential. This discussion will offer valuable insights for robotics researchers and practitioners working in applications of motion planning, SLAM, 3D reconstruction, and autonomous systems, highlighting both future directions for the field and cutting-edge work from our team: Cardiff University's Computational Robotics (CUCR).
