Description

We live in an uncertain, turbulent age. It’s a sign of intelligence to feel self-doubt at times.

Gravitas is tested in moments of turbulence. Your audience, whether a client meeting, a town hall or executive committee, measures your leadership both by what you say, but also in the subtle signals – your breath, voice and body language communicate your trust in your own message. You must demonstrate that you can lead your own nervous system so that your audience can trust you to lead others. Think of a pilot's voice – in their calm, confidence and control you assess their ability to respond, in mind and body, to any turbulence you may face together.

The Gravitas Equation (which Caroline, the author of Gravitas, bases on Aristotle’s ethos, logos and pathos) is:
knowledge + passion + purpose - anxiety, gives you a framework to understand your strengths and development points as a speaker.

This highly practical and interactive session will help you learn how to apply the framework to your own leadership, so that when you meet the edge of your comfort zone, you can maintain your presence and confidence. During the session, you will build a personal toolkit for speaking with confidence, influence and authority, no matter how high the stakes or how challenging the stakeholders. The session will be highly practical and interactive. We will look at the core models as a whole group, before devoting time for exploration in small groups, and coming back together for a Q&A session – there will also be an opportunity for group coaching for a few individuals who want to workshop their question.

Learning Outcomes

The event will help you:

  • define what gravitas means for you and understand how to support your team with their own impact
  • learn core skills for gravitas and executive presence under pressure – the tools for staying grounded and present as a leader, even when stress hits
  • develop a new voice and body language tools for speaking with impact in high-stakes moments
  • find gears for your leadership to flex both your strength and your warmth, as required
  • develop a practical and time-efficient personal toolkit to continue building your gravitas as you step up professionally

Who this is for

This event is for directors and senior managers who recognise that they can benefit from a more centred presence in stressful situations or when dealing with difficult people. It may also appeal to senior leaders/managers who are stepping up into a new role or might be facing new situations that require them to have more gravitas – they may be communicating with new audiences, or in different ways, that require improved communication and influencing skills.

This session isn’t suitable for delegates who are looking for a theoretical lecture-style approach.

Following the session, you will receive a ten-minute gravitas video to remind you of the core ideas.
