Description

We tend to assume that modern organisations are rational, meritocratic structures, but the battle for the most senior roles in any organisation is intensely political. Young executives who assume that hard work and talent will inevitably be rewarded with promotion should be aware that Machiavellian intelligence plays a more significant role in forging a successful career than is usually acknowledged.

We have come to understand, for example, that the very best managers or leaders, display high levels of emotional intelligence – a complex, hard-to-measure human quality. There is another kind of intelligence that needs to be considered – Machiavellian intelligence. A failure to understand this fundamental aspect of human behaviour explains why many talented, emotionally intelligent and hard-working executives fail to reach the top, while others – those with a more instinctive grasp of politics and the art of self-promotion – rise.

Based on the bestselling book, Machiavellian Intelligence: How to Survive and Rise in the Modern Corporation and with reference to many interviews and case studies, this one-day masterclass looks at what it really takes to succeed in modern organisations.
