Description

The release of AI tools that are accessible to all (e.g., ChatGPT, Consensus, Grammarly, DeepArt) has the potential to revolutionise the workplace. This will require people to learn how these new tools can be used both pragmatically and ethically. It will also reshape the role of humans, since many of the jobs that we currently are employed to do will be performed better by AI. This leaves the question: could AI make humans redundant?

In this masterclass, we will consider the neuroscience of learning and decision-making to better understand how humans learn to decide. We will compare this to the ways in which AI learns to make decisions. This comparison will allow us to determine where AI might outperform the capacity of humans, but also where human learning and decision-making might remain essential in the workplace.

Learning Outcomes

This session will help you:

  • deepen your understanding of how the human brain learns and decides
  • compare and contrast the processes used in AI tools
  • consider how this might impact the world of work, both pragmatically and ethically

Who is this for

For individuals who are interested in learning more about human learning and decision-making, and how this might be replaced by technology. This might include leaders of organisations who are horizon scanning for their business, HR professionals who are considering what changes to roles might be required in the future, and individuals who are generally interested in how AI will impact our futures.

Professor Patricia Riddell

Tricia riddell

Professor Patricia Riddell is a chartered psychologist who teaches and researches as a professor of applied neuroscience in the School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences at the University of Reading. She contributes aspects of applied neuroscience to qualification and custom courses at Henley, including on the MBA, MA in Leadership and the MSc in Coaching for Behavioural Change programmes.

Patricia specialises in how neuroscience can be applied in the business world, to support and extend our understanding of human behaviour, including coaching, leadership, behavioural change, personal resilience, and creativity and innovation. She brings her unique combination of neuroscience and organisational knowledge to interventions that solve real problems through understanding what is happening in the brain. She believes in a style of interaction which brings complex content to life, making it as simple as it needs to be and no simpler. Her workshops are highly interactive; her priority is to help people see where they can apply neuroscience easily within their own lives, rather than just understanding the content for the sake of learning.

In addition to her work at Henley, Patricia works globally providing seminars and workshops for organisations and businesses. She has co-authored The Neuroscience of Leadership Coaching, written several book chapters on the neuroscience of coaching and published academic articles in the areas of coaching and leadership. She has a BSc in physiological sciences from the University of Glasgow, a Masters in quantitative methods applied to physiology from Imperial College and a doctorate in physiological sciences from the University of Oxford.
