Description
In this session, I’ll explore the rich and often complex experience of being an internal coach – someone who is both within the system and working with it. We’ll consider what makes internal coaching unique: the opportunities for deep systemic impact, but also the challenges that come with balancing multiple roles, relationships, and boundaries.
I’ll share insights from my own experience – as a coach, supervisor, and developer of internal coaching capabilities – around how internal coaches can stay sharp, grounded, and resourced. We’ll look at what organisations need to consider beyond initial coach training, including the importance of CPD, supervision, and creating a culture where coaching is professionally valued, not just practically deployed.
We’ll also explore the hidden tensions: how to stand out while staying flexible, how to grow coaching experience outside the organisation in a way that enhances the internal offer, and how to position coaching as both a skill and a craft. The session will offer practical questions, lived insight, and reflective prompts for coaches and coaching leaders.
