First student cohort joins new International Institute in China

A new partnership between Henley Business School and the University of Reading, and Tianjin University, one of China’s best and oldest universities, has welcomed its first cohort of over 120 students. They have enrolled on undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes in finance, financial technology, sustainable finance and business.

An official opening ceremony was held at the new campus in Hainan Province in Southern China, while University of Reading centenary events in Beijing and Hong Kong celebrated the contributions of alumni across the region.

Speaking about the official launch of the joint institute, Dean Elena B. Spasova said: “At the heart of our partnership with Tianjin University is an ambition to promote cross-cultural collaboration and to equip our students with the knowledge and perspectives to thrive in both local and global contexts with a strong sense of purpose and responsibility.

“I am confident that our students will make a significant impact in the years ahead, applying their skills and innovative thinking to the opportunities and challenges they encounter in their careers.”

Located in Hainan Province, the partnership offers students access to teaching, faculty and educational resources from both the UK and China.

Henley academic Professor Yinshan Tang is Vice Dean (China) and Dr Dan Luo is serving as Deputy Vice-Dean (Teaching and Learning) for the Tianjin University-University of Reading: Henley International Institute.
