Placements
Placements offer our students a fantastic opportunity to really understand and contribute to the world of work, whilst offering employers fresh insights and a different viewpoint on their organisation.
Considering a Placement
On some courses, students can choose to complete a 9–12 month placement in their third year, before returning to the Business School for their final year. This is recorded on degree transcripts and offers a wide range of benefits, including:
- Considerably enhancing CVs
- Gaining valuable knowledge, experience and transferable skills to support future career success
- Developing industry insight
- Earning a competitive salary while learning
- Testing an industry, sector or role to determine whether it is the right fit
A successful placement can lead directly to a graduate job offer and helps students build strong professional networks for the future. For those whose degree does not include a 9–12 month placement, a summer internship provides an excellent alternative to gain experience and strengthen a CV.
Henley Careers offers expert support at every stage - from choosing the right placement, internship or graduate role, to preparing strong applications through workshops, CV and application advice, interview training and drop-in clinics. Support is tailored to individual needs and career goals.
During the placement, students are supported by a dedicated placement tutor who maintains regular contact, visits them in the workplace, and helps set objectives, review progress and maximise development.
Denis Kokin
Placement Student at Network Rail
"My placement with Network Rail gave me a taste for what working a corporate job is like and what I need to succeed in this environment. Over the year I have developed a variety of personal and professional skills with the most important ones being confidence and resilience. Confidence to collaborate with others including senior management and to expose myself to challenges by taking on tasks I have never done before. Being resilient is especially important as it helps to stay on top of day-to-day tasks and navigate through especially busy times."
Masters Internship Scheme
This paid internship scheme is co-funded by Henley and available exclusively to MSc students enrolled in programmes with a summer placement module. In academic year 2025/26, Henley will sponsor up to 50 placements with leading UK employers.
Through this initiative, students can:
- Work with UK employers in our internship network as part of Masters studies.
- Gain hands-on experience in a professional setting, enhancing your employability.
- Self-source an internship. If you have a specific company in mind, you can independently secure a placement and apply for Henley sponsorship.
- Increase your chances of securing a placement. Having Henley’s sponsorship makes your application more attractive to potential employers, as they benefit from full funding and a streamlined recruitment process.
For employers
Many of our learners undertake a placement year, equipping them with practical experience and key skills. By recruiting our students, employers benefit from:
- Work-Ready Candidates: Our students come with hands-on experience and are ready to contribute from day one.
- Fresh Perspectives: They bring innovative ideas and current knowledge from their coursework.
- Building your Talent Pipeline: Hiring placement students can lead to long-term employment opportunities, allowing you to nurture and retain top talent. These students, already familiar with your business culture and processes, often rise to become Future Leaders.
