Abstract:
Cloud manufacturing (CMfg) represents a transformative shift in the manufacturing industry, evolving from a traditional "product-oriented" model to a "service-oriented" one. Despite its potential, cloud manufacturing adoption remains limited, primarily due to the complexity of implementation and a lack of tools to support this transition. This study aims to develop a firm-level CMfg readiness assessment model (CRAM) and systematic assessment methodology that could assist manufacturing organisations in making informed decisions during their CMfg transition. Using a combination of TOE, AHP and DOI, this research developed a CMfg Readiness Assessment Model (CRAM) to facilitate implementation. The model was tested in an Aerospace company with three business units in the UK and Netherlands, demonstrating its capability to evaluate both current and future readiness levels. The results revealed a varying degree of understanding of CMfg among business units, uncoordinated strategies that hindered group-wide adoption, and a lack of consensus among the business units regarding their future directions.
