Dr Olena Khlystova is a Lecturer in Management and Organisational Behaviour at Henley Business School. She teaches management, leadership and professional development across undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes and convenes modules on professional excellence, leadership and research development.
Her research in the field of organisational behaviour studies how individuals and organisations react to disruption, uncertainty and prolonged adversity. Research interests include organisational resilience, crisis leadership, sensemaking, precarious work and the organisation of creative work. She explores how organisational structures, leadership practices and conditions of work shape people’s capacity to adapt, exercise agency and sustain their work during periods of crisis and change, plus the dark side and limits of resilience.
Her current research covers how technological disruption, including generative artificial intelligence, reshapes work practices, professional roles and adaptive capabilities among creative freelancers and microbusinesses. She primarily uses qualitative methods, including interviews, comparative qualitative analysis, systematic reviews and integrative literature reviews.
Olena engages in interdisciplinary and international research and impact. She leads and contributes to knowledge-exchange projects in the UK and the Euro-Asian region on creative industries, resilience, leadership and regional development, working with creative practitioners, businesses, policymakers and academic partners.
Having earned a PhD in Management at Henley Business School, Olena is a Centre for Euro-Asian Studies member and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She supervises doctoral researchers and contributes to academic tutoring and curriculum development.
