Overview

Developing the next generation of digital and technology professionals through a degree apprenticeship that builds the capabilities and confidence to deliver real business solutions.

The BSc Digital and Technology Solutions Professional Apprenticeship is a Level 6, integrated degree apprenticeship. The programme develops professionals who can critically evaluate digital organisational requirements. Their learning will encompass digital technologies and design, building, testing, adapting, and supporting technology‑enabled solutions that respond to real organisational needs. Apprentices develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to operate across the full solution lifecycle, applying their learning directly in the workplace. Apprentices build a strong foundation across digital technologies, business analysis and professional practice, while developing the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

This programme is currently in development at Henley Business School and is due to launch soon (subject to approval).

Who is it for?

Designed for organisations looking to develop early career digital and technology talent.

Specialist pathways

This apprenticeship offers specialist pathways aligned to common digital and technology roles. Pathways enable employers to match the apprenticeship to organisational needs, while ensuring all apprentices develop a broad, transferable understanding of digital and technology solutions and how these operate across teams and functions.

IT Consultancy

The IT Consultancy pathway is designed for those who bridge the gap between users and technology, using a broad set of digital skills to analyse organisational challenges and identify appropriate technology‑enabled solutions. Apprentices develop the ability to advise internal and external stakeholders on how to use technology to meet business goals, overcome challenges and improve productivity, while supporting changes to business processes and the implementation of digital and technology solutions within the organisation.

Business Analysis

The Business Analysis pathway supports those who act as an interpreter between two worlds: business and IT, bridging understanding between organisational needs and technology delivery. Apprentices learn to analyse and understand business needs, define and manage business requirements, and support the design and delivery of tested system solutions across the project life‑cycle. The emphasis is on collaboration, communication and ensuring digital solutions meet business and customer requirements.

Data Analysis

The Data Analysis pathway is for those who “collect, organise and study data to provide new business insight” to a range of stakeholders. Apprentices develop skills in managing, cleansing and analysing data, using appropriate analytical tools to support evidence‑based decision‑making. The focus is on producing accurate, relevant analysis, communicating insights clearly, and making recommendations that contribute to improved organisational performance.

Software Engineering

The Software Engineering pathway aligns to roles that work across the full solution development life‑cycle, from gathering requirements through analysis, design, build, test, implementation and support. Apprentices develop the ability to apply software engineering principles across each stage, including addressing security considerations and supporting existing systems. Working as part of collaborative teams, apprentices take responsibility for delivering and supporting software solutions that meet user and business needs.

Outcomes and benefits

As organisations increasingly rely on technology across functions, Digital and Technology Solutions Professionals play a key role in shaping how digital and technology solutions are designed, developed, and implemented. They help balance technical possibilities with commercial, operational and security considerations.

The programme builds the breadth, judgement and confidence needed to operate effectively in complex, technology‑enabled environments, enabling apprentices to contribute meaningfully within real organisational contexts.

By the end of the apprenticeship, individuals will have developed the capability to apply digital and technology expertise to improve performance, support change, and influence outcomes across the organisation.

By the end of the apprenticeship, individuals will be better equipped to:
  • Analyse how digital technologies support organisational objectives and productivity, while managing digital risks
  • Evaluate and recommend technology solutions that respond to real business needs
  • Apply data, systems thinking and analysis to support informed decision‑making
  • Work across technical and non‑technical stakeholders with confidence and clarity
  • Apply secure, ethical and responsible approaches to the use of digital technologies
  • Contribute to the design, development, testing and implementation of technology solutions

For employers, this capability translates into well‑rounded digital professionals who can turn technical expertise into practical, business‑focused solutions. Apprentices apply learning directly in the workplace, strengthening organisational capability while supporting early‑career talent development through a funded, nationally recognised degree pathway.

The programme helps employers build confident digital professionals who understand not only technology but also how digital roles operate in real organisational environments.

Grounded digital and organisational expertise

Henley’s digital education is led by the Henley Informatics Research Centre which combines expertise in data, digital systems and AI with research‑informed insight into how technology reshapes organisations, decision‑making and work practices. This ensures apprentices develop a strong understanding of digital technology grounded in organisational reality, rather than isolated technical skills.

Henley’s focus is on developing professionals who can operate effectively within teams, contributing to the delivery of digital and technology solutions as they become increasingly embedded across the organisation.

Proven experience in apprenticeship delivery

Henley is an established provider of digital and management apprenticeships, trusted by employers across sectors. Our programmes blend academic rigour with applied learning, experienced faculty, and cohort-based delivery to support long-term organisational capability and early talent progression.

Structured learning and progression

Early‑career apprentices benefit from clear expectations and structured progression. Henley’s approach is designed around well-defined learning journeys that support apprentices in building confidence and capability over time, while meeting the demands of degree-level study and workplace performance.

This structured design helps employers to:
  • Develop technical capability and professional capability aligned to role requirements
  • Support effective application of learning in the workplace
  • Reduce risk associated with early‑career recruitment
  • Build confidence in apprentice progression and retention

Individual and inclusive support

Henley recognises that apprentices at the start of their careers may require additional guidance as they balance professional responsibilities and academic study. Academic and pastoral support are embedded throughout the programme to help apprentices develop reliability, independence and professional confidence.

Henley is also committed to inclusive, neurodiversity‑aware delivery. Learning design and support approaches recognise diverse ways of thinking, processing information and demonstrating capability, helping apprentices perform at their best while meeting the requirements of the national apprenticeship standard.
